Where Can I Buy Wild Blueberries?
Most grocery stores carry frozen wild blueberries. I have personally found them at Costco and Trader Joe’s in the frozen section and the dried wild blueberries at Trader Joe’s. You can also find them at Wal-Mart, Target, and Aldi. If you can’t find them locally, you can find frozen wild blueberries on Azure Standard and dried wild blueberries on Azure Standard or Amazon. They are definitely cheaper if you can find them locally versus online.
*If you can’t find dried wild blueberries and need to use regular dried blueberries you will want to increase 2-3x the quantity to help with the flavor difference.
Can I Use Regular Blueberries Instead Of Wild Blueberries?
The short answer is yes, but I will say that the flavor is less intense than with the wild blueberries. The wild blueberries give a more intense blueberry flavor than standard blueberries which is the best option for these naturally flavored bagels. Remember these are going to taste great, but don’t expect them to be a direct comparison with grocery store blueberry bagels made with simulated artificial blueberry flavor.
Do I Have To Use Lemon Zest?
You actually don’t have to use the lemon zest, but I will advise that you don’t skip it. The lemon zest is what helps the natural blueberry flavor shine! It doesn’t add a lemony flavor, but gives enough of a bright boost in flavor to really bring out the blueberry-ness.
How To Make And Shape Blueberry Bagels
Below are some pictures to help walk you through the process of making these blueberry bagels. When shaping, you are going to shape it into a taut ball like a dinner roll and then poke a hole through the center of the ball and gently stretch and rotate the hole open with your index fingers.
If you’d like a visual demonstration, you can watch my original bagel video—skip to the 4:00 mark to see the shaping process.
*A tip when making these blueberry bagels is if you have little wild blueberries that want to pop out as you are shaping you can just push them into the dough and pinch to seal the spot.

How To Store Blueberry Bagels
When cooled you can store your bagels in a ziploc bag or airtight storage container for 3-5 days.
For longer storage, cut in half wrap tightly in plastic or foil and keep in the freezer for 6 months. You can pop it right in the toaster from the freezer.
